In a recent broadcast of Public Radio International’s The World, Murray Carpenter made a tour of people who were throwing some light on the hidden costs of global consumption. Leonardo Bonanni of MIT has created an online system called Sourcemap that allows users to construct a model of any physical product’s carbon dioxide footprint. The online model (of a shirt, or a dish set, or a pendant) consists of the built-in footprint from any source material and the emissions created to transport that material to the manufacturing site. HP sets GHG emission reduction target

Hewlett-Packard has set a new goal of reducing energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions of all its products to 40 percent below 2005 levels by the end of 2011.

Hewlett-Packard announced the goal while reporting that has reduced its combined energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions to 25 percent based on 2005 levels for 2010.
